A planning application was submitted to develop a social enterprise adventure centre at a site in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.
NIEA requested that a PRA was carried out for the site as it was located on land formerly used as a metal manufacturing and engineering works – a land use that has the potential to result in ground contamination.
The PRA report submitted to planning highlighted all the risks associated with the sites former uses and concluded that there was no risk to human health or the environment at the site, and as such the development could proceed as proposed and no further investigation was necessary.
The report was accepted by NIEA and local council environmental health department.
