Bessbrook Mill

McCloy Consulting was appointed in June 2007 to undertake a flood risk assessment as part of the planning process to transform the former Bessbrook Mill, a 19th century building lying astride the Camlough river, into modern apartments and sheltered accommodation for the elderly. The site was identified as lying partially within the flood plain indicated on the Strategic Flood Maps (Rivers and Sea) Northern Ireland.

McCloy Consulting undertook a full modelling (Level 3) study, surveying the Camlough river and surrounding watercourses, and constructed a hydraulic model of the site. We were able to identify the primary cause of flooding at the mill, and by modelling various alternatives, subsequently recommended flood alleviation works to eliminate risk of flooding in the form of the replacement of an undersized stone arch bridge adjacent to the site.

Comber

McCloy Consulting was appointed by FOLD Housing Association in September 2008 to undertake a Flood Risk Assessment as part of the Planning process for a strategic development of 33 dwellings in Dunsy Way, Comber.

McCloy Consulting undertook a Level 2 FRA study, based on data made available by statutory stakeholders, with a full assessment of risks due to adjacent open river channels, culverted watercourses, tidal inundation, and possibility of failure of NI Water infrastructure in the vicinity of the site. In addition, McCloy Consulting provided a drainage impact assessment for the developed site in accordance with Rivers Agency and planning requirements.

McCloy Consulting provided detailed advice regarding the data and restrictions provided by Rivers Agency, allowing refinement of the proposed site layout and enabling optimum use of the site space available.

Hillsborough Road

McCloy Consulting completed a Level 2 flood risk assessment for a new £10m Premier Inn hotel on the Hillsborough Road, based on data made available by statutory stakeholders.

The 60 bedroom Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre restaurant will be developed by the Conway Group at a parkland site off the Hillsborough Road and will be the first hotel to be located in Lisburn.
